Our Clients' 5 Year Accomplishments!
Canada Bear Hunts

We are a results-oriented outfitter!

The following statistical story shows what our clients accomplished over the past years while being guided by Tuff Ayers Outfitters.

Over 150% Kill Rate = 2 Bear Area
                               In 2007 - 21 Hunters took 36 Bears
64% of our Bears were over 6 ft. Nose to Tail
22% of our Bears were over 7 ft. Nose to Tail
40% - 45% of our Bears were Off Colour
We've taken Bears over 8 ft. Nose to Tail

Hunting For Trophy Bear - An Experience of a Lifetime

We are in a two (2) bear per each license area, which means that each hunter is eligible to bag (2) black bears. Alberta is estimated to have between 60 - 80 thousand black bear and we hunt in the Northeast WMU 517. The area is just north of the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range, which is a 1,700 square mile game preserve with no hunting. By hunting the area north of the Weapons Range, we are assured of a great number of mature bears. The average bear in Alberta is between 5 - 5 ½ feet nose to tail. Our average is between 6 - 6 ½ feet nose to tail and we have killed bears over 8 feet nose to tail (these monsters weigh between 450 - 600 lbs. and they are bigger than most mountain Grizzlies). This is really trophy hunting! You can hunt wolf and coyote on all of our hunts and these  are great trophies as well.

Our hunters killed 36 bears, and 4 wolfs in 2007; it was a very successful year. When you consider all the bears we took this spring and only 5 were females, that means we have a very healthy population of black bears and the big old boars are keeping the sows pushed away from the baits.

2007 CLIENTS' STORIES
Alberta, Canada  Bear Hunts
Still we measure our greatest success with having people like Mike Couch, Paul Polowski and Barry Rabb returning in 2008 for more great hunting. Most of our clients are returning clients or friends of past clients.

Already we are looking forward to our year 2008 hunt; we believe that return business is our greatest measure of success.

Every one of our hunters has a unique story to tell of shooting a bear and most of them have two. You also can share in a great hunting experience and go home with a memory that will last a lifetime!

Hope you can join us ... and good hunting!

Moving Forward ....

In 2007 our new hunting areas were great with some baits producing 2 and 3 bears. However, our established baits produced our biggest bears this year. With expansion in the logging and oil industries we had more new areas to hunt in 2007. At present we are tending over 450 km (275 miles) of baited roads and trails and keep adding to our 100 bait sites.

A Winning Bait Program!!

The bait we use is the very best. We use beaver and pork parts for smell and draw, and cookies and honey & oats for feed. Trophy size bear love to keep coming back to this smorgasbord. We have 6 - 7 baits for each hunter and permanent stands at most of the baits and some ground blinds.

In 2007 we used 24,000 lbs., (4 tandem trailers and truckloads) of pork, over 175 beaver, and 1,200 lbs of honey & corn. We fed the bear well and it paid off for our hunters.

We have over 100 bait sites.

Hunting With Style

The hunting style is over baits and for the archery, rifle or black powder hunter, this method has proven successful.

Most of the archery stands are between 15-25 yards and most rifle shots are around 20-50 yards. We use ground blinds in some areas. We do get to stalk some bears when the clover starts to grow. Full camouflage is required for the archery hunters and it is better for all hunters. Although we are not an archery only outfit, we meet all the needs of archery hunters. We provide archery targets to keep you 'sighted in' and portable tree stands, if the permanent stand is too far away from the bait. We take Pope & Young bears every spring 20% of our bears measured over 20 inches in 2007.

These are big bears!

Comfortable Camp Facilities

Our camp consists of several 12' x 14' high wall tents all having both wooden floors and bunks. There are a maximum of four (4) hunters per tent. The cook tent is 12' x 20' on a wooden floor. All the tents have wood burning heaters in them. These tents are very spacious and in bad weather, you are high and dry off the ground. There are electric lights in each tent and we have pressure hot water shower system in each camp.

We try to have no more than 6 hunters in each camp, but to accommodate special requests, we are glad to add an extra hunter. We provide a very comfortable rustic wilderness camp.

Communication - You Too Can Call Home .............
You may bring your cell phone as most of them will work in the hunting area.

Transportation to the Hunt

All clients will be picked up in Edmonton, Alberta. Clients will fly into the Edmonton International Airport and be transported by a free airport shuttle service to the Holiday Inn The Palace for overnight lodging. We will schedule pickup for 7 a.m. to take you directly to the hunt site.

We recommend arriving the day prior to the scheduled 7 p.m. pickup and departing the day after the hunt.

The cost for ground transportation from the hunting area and return is $250 (CAD) [cash] or certified check (cheque), payable to the person picking you up in Edmonton.

Other Considerations
Firearms Policy
The archery hunter must supply their own equipment. The black powder and open sight rifle hunter must be prepared for low light shooting. You will have to lighten the front sight to shoot a black bear in low light. In Alberta your rifle must be over .23 calibre and the empty cartridge must be over 1.75 inches.

Wounded Bear Policy
A wounded bear is considered a dead bear. If any blood is found at the location, the hunter must surrender a tag. If the hunter wounds a second (2nd) bear, then he/she must pay an additional Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) (CAD) to keep hunting.

Weather Considerations
In May and June weather is generally warm during the day and quite cool at night. Bring a medium to heavy sleeping bag and air mattress. A good warm jacket is necessary for the evening stands and rain gear is also essential as it is "Springtime" in Alberta. We may get an occasional light snow in May.
